Red Slush

FROZEN PARTY SLUSH RECIPE

Published By Karrie
COURSE BEVERAGES

Servings   recipe here:

I had this at a RS summer event this past week and was obsessed.  ENJOY -
I also love the bright fun red color ~

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 14.5 oz can pineapple chunks with juice
  • 1- 10 oz. jar maraschino cherries with juice
  • 4 cups frozen whole strawberries
  • 1/2 can frozen orange juice concentrate
  • lime juiced
  • 1 2-liter bottle of cherry 7-up or 7-up depending on your sweetness liking
  • Optional: additional limes or maraschino cherries as garnish or to add to punch bowl.

INSTRUCTIONS

  • Add pineapple with juice, maraschino cherries with juice, frozen strawberries, orange juice concentrate and lime juice to a high-powered blender. Blend on high for 1-2 minutes or until smooth.
  • Transfer to a freezer safe container with lid or gallon sized freezer bag. If using container with lid place a piece of plastic wrap gently on top of mixture, softly pressing to remove air. Place lid on and freeze. If using gallon bag, seal bag removing air and freeze.
  • Freeze for 6 to 8 hours or until frozen completely solid.

THAW & SERVE:

  • Remove your frozen bag or container of slush from the freezer about 60-90 minutes before you plan to drink it. Use your hands to break up the slush in the bag a bit before opening it or use a knife to chop up the slush in the container.
  • Transfer the slush to your punch bowl. Chop up any large chunks. Then add your cherry 7-up soda. Stir until slushy. Serve using a ladle into serving cups.
  • Tip: Another fun option is to add 1 cup of frozen slush mixture to 6 individual large cups. Pour soda into each glass to make a fun slushy float-style drink.
How Many Drinks Do I Need For A Party?
How much of this recipe you make all really depends on how many guests you plan on having. This recipe makes about 20 servings, and considering that your guests might want seconds (if not thirds) of this frozen refreshment, you might want to make more than one batch!
How Long Do Fruit Slushies Last in the Freezer?
They will easily hold for 3 months in the freezer. When we want to enjoy them later in the year, and all the fresh berries are out of season and expensive, all we have to do is take the bag out of the freezer, thaw and add soda. Taa daa! Delicious frozen slushies.
How Do I Serve Fruit Slushies?
These slushies are great for a hot day treat or at a big party or gathering! If you’d like your next party to be a huge hit, serve your fruit slush in a giant punchbowl. Top the fruit slush with fresh cut fruit – my favorites are limes, cherries, or berries.
If you are serving them individually I love to find a pretty glass  to showcase the slushies!
When Is The Best Time Of Year For Slush?
Now you might be thinking that a frozen slush might be something you only make during the summer time, but this recipe is still a hit no matter what time of year it is!
It’s a yummy addition to a refreshment table at a dinner party, a birthday party, or even a Christmas party! So feel free to whip some up whenever you get the craving. We use it to make movie nights seem special with the kids all the time!
Tips And Tricks For Making Homemade Slush
  • Freezing. If using a container with a lid, place a piece of plastic wrap gently on top of the mixture, softly pressing to remove air. Place the lid on and freeze. If using a gallon bag, partially seal the bag, remove the air, finish sealing the bag and freeze.
  • Making a Large Batch. An empty ice cream container works perfect for freezing the slush mixture for a large group.
  • Garnish. You can add additional limes or maraschino cherries as garnish in the punch bowl or each cup.
  • Make A Slush Float. Another fun option is to add 1 cup of frozen slush mixture to 6 individual large cups. Pour soda into each glass to make a fun slushy float-style drink!

Lime Slush

Stacie thought it would be a good idea to add Lime Slush to the list of great drink recipes.  She made it for a baby shower once and someone asked, "Are you sure there isn't alcohol in this?  Because it is so good!"  (Was that her non-LDS neighbors asking?)

This is another simple and inexpensive recipe that is so popular.

Lime Slush

1 (12 oz.) can frozen limeade
11 cups water
3 cups sugar
1 (2 litre) bottle Sprite or 7-Up

Combine limeade with water and sugar; stir until sugar dissolves.  Place in a covered container in the freezer for at least 24 hours.  One to two hours before serving, remove from the freezer and let thaw slightly.  Before serving, mash up and put in a punch bowl.  Pour Sprite over and stir.  Makes 1 1/2 gallons and serves about 20.

I usually slice through the frozen slush with a large knife cross ways to break it up.

Divine Drinks

There is something wonderful about a good drink.  Here are some favorite recipes that are super easy.

Peach Drink

2 cans peach nectar
1 can apricot nectar

Mix together and serve with lots of ice.  We were served this drink every night at MalaMala Game Reserve in South Africa.  They call it "ranger juice".  Very refreshing and also healthy.
Serves 4

White Grape Drink
This is my "go to" drink because it is so easy and tastes really good.

1 can frozen white grape juice concentrate
1 (2 litre) bottle Sprite

Mix in a punch bowl with lots of ice.  Serves 10-12.

Dad's Punch
A punch with lots of zip!

1 (12 oz.) can frozen Hawaiian's Own Mango Orange
1 (12 oz.) can frozen Dole Pineapple Banana Strawberry
1 (12 oz.) can frozen lemonade concentrate
3 litres Sprite or 7-Up
1/2 to 3/4 bag crushed ice

Let frozen concentrates sit out on the counter to thaw.  In a large punch bowl, put frozen concentrates and Sprite.  Stir.  Add ice and serve.  Serves about 20.

Brazilian Lemonade
This is a bit more work but it is the best ever.  From the girls at Our Best Bites.

1 cup sugar
6 cups cold water
4 juicy limes
6 T. sweetened condensed milk

Mix cold water and sugar; chill until ready to use.  Wash limes with mild dish soap.  Cut the ends off the limes and cut into eight wedges.  Place half of the limes in your blender.  Add half of the sugar water and pulse 5 times.  Place a fine mesh strainer over a pitcher and pour the blended mixture through the strainer.  Dump the pulp and residue into the trash.  Repeat with the remaining limes and sugar water.  Whisk in the sweetened condensed milk.  Serve immediately over lots of ice.  Serves 4-6.

This doesn't keep so pulse in the blender right before you are ready to serve.

Hailey's Blessing Day Slush, Pink Brownies, & Meatballs

Raspberry Slush   from Aubrey Ruby BYU MBASA cookbook pg. 21
12 cups water
6 cups sugar
1 pkg. raspberry Kool-Aid, dry
8 ripe bananas, mashed
3 large cans unsweetened pineapple juice (48 oz.)
1 6 oz. can lemonade concentrate
4 cups frozen raspberries (I probably used half this amt. but more would be awesome!)
2 cans crushed pineapple (maybe a little less depending on your style... also buy premium brand)

Boil water and sugar until sugar is dissolved in a LARGE stock pot.  Blend (in different segments, because of the size of the recipe) bananas, pineapple, raspberries, lemonade and some pineapple juice together.  Let syrup cool and blend all ingredients in a large pan.  Dip out juice into freezer or zip lock bags. [I used 2 ice cream buckets maxed full so it makes a ton, serves 40+].  Freeze.  Use 1/2 to 1 liter bottle of 7-UP per bag. [I used cheap lemon-lime soda.]

Used pink mint frosting in
brownies instead of green... fun to use different colors :) orange =  Halloween   blue = baby boy etc...

MEATBALL Appetizer
2 lbs. frozen meatballs from Sniders or Costco (I figure about 3 / person)
1 (14 oz.) can jellied cranberry sauce
1 (12 oz.) jar Homemade chili sauce
3 T. lemon juice
1/4 cup brown sugar

Combine sauce ingredients in a crock pot and add meatballs.  Cook on high about an hour until sauce is bubble and meatballs are heated through.
Serve from the crockpot with toothpicks.
